Nami on Plastic depicts the sea, but does so on painted plastic packaging collected from shops in Izu. By using the very material that threatens the coastline as the surface for a traditional seascape motif, the work becomes its own critique. The contradiction is quiet but pointed: an image of the sea made from the substance that undermines it.
